Adelaide: Virat Kohli scored an imperious century as India opened their World Cup defence in convincing fashion with a 76-run victory over Pakistan in a frenzied atmosphere at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The much-anticipated Pool B grudge match, the latest chapter in one of the great rivalries in sport, attracted a passionate crowd of 41,587 to the revamped ground with up to a billion more tuning in on the sub-continent and around the world.

Pakistan will have to wait for another four years to burst the crackers. On Sunday, their hopes of creating history by beating India in a World Cup match were dashed as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men sealed a 76-run victory.

At the Adelaide Oval, India bundled out Pakistan for 224 runs after putting up 300.  India have never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan, and the tradition continued on Sunday too.

How India beat Pakistan in every World Cup match:

The first cricket world cup battle between India and Pakistan was held in 1992 tournament which was hosted in Australia and New Zealand. IND-PAK match was held at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on 4 March 1992. India won this match by 43 runs as Pakistan failed to chase 217 runs target. Sachin Tendulkar was named Man of The Match for his 54 runs not out inning. 

1996 India vs Pakistan World Cup Match 

In 1996 cricket world cup India faced Pakistan in the second quarter-final match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on 9 March. This was the 2nd meet between these two sides in world cup tournament. India defeated Pakistan by 39 runs as Pakistan couldn’t chase 288 runs target. Navjot Singh Siddhu was awarded play of the match award for his brilliant 93 runs knock. - 

1999 India vs Pakistan World Cup Match

 In 1999 cricket world cup meet India beat Pakistan by 47 runs margin. After defeating Pakistan in this world cup match, India made hat-trick of beating Pakistan in world cups after 1992 and 1996. It was Super Six game and Pakistan team failed to reach at the target of 228 runs. Venkatesh Prasad was announced man of the match for his excellent bowling spell. He took 5 wickets in the match. - 

2003 India vs Pakistan World Cup Match India defeated Pakistan

in 2003 ICC world cup’s match played on 1 March at SuperSport Park in Centurion. India won by 6 wickets and beat Pakistan for the fourth time in a cricket world cup match. Sachin Tendulkar was given Man of the Match award for his match winning 98 runs inning. India chased 273 runs target in 45.4 overs. 

2011 India vs Pakistan World Cup Match

 Indian Cricket Team beat Pakistan by 29 runs in the semi-final match of 2011 ICC world cup. This match was held at PCA Stadium in Mohali on 30 March. Pakistan failed to chase 261 runs target to reach in the final. Sachin Tendulkar was declared Man of the Match of his brilliant 85 runs contribution to take India’s total 260 in 50 overs. -

2015 India vs Pakistan World Cup Match 

This was the sixth meet between India and Pakistan in a cricket world cup match. India has beaten Pakistan in all previous five meetings and onece again prove that they are far better than Pakistan in every department Batting, Fielding and Bowling than Pakistan. Once again Pakistan has failed to beat india in World Cup and could not change the history.
