President Arif Alvi conferred the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country's highest civilian award, on noted Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani


Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani was awarded the Pakistan Mark

During the ceremony at the Presidency, President Dr. Arif Alvi presented Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani with the Pakistan Insignia. Hurriyat Conference(APHC)Convener Muhammad Hussain Khateeb and other Hurriyat leaders of Azad Kashmir Branch received the Insignia of Pakistan for Syed Ali Gilani, given due to unparalleled struggle.

Tribute was paid to Syed Ali Gilani for his selfless and continuous struggle and sacrifices for the right of self-determination of the people of Occupied Kashmir, his unwavering determination, passion, perseverance and leadership against Indian atrocities, cruel measures and violations of human rights in Occupied Kashmir. His role in exposing the violations was appreciated.

Geelani played a central role in building public opinion against actions of the Indian state aimed at changing the demographics of the Muslim majority region.Pakistan also expressed concern over the unjustified detention of Syed Ali Shah Gilani at his home in his 90s.

The award of Nishan-e-Pakistan was announced for Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani by Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing the Legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir. He said that Syed Ali Gilani had been fighting for independence for a long time.

Later, the Senate also passed a resolution to pay tribute to Syed Ali Gilani's sacrifices.
