He had been diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in October 2012 and underwent treatment for the cancer but it returned in September 2014. Doctors identified his condition as double-hit lymphoma, a rare and aggressive blood disease. Only 5% of those diagnosed with it live for longer than 12 months.
He chose not to continue with chemotherapy, opting instead to “chill out at home” as he managed his illness with natural remedies.
Crowe said his diagnosis had helped him realise what was important in life. “The main thing is the love I have for the people around me, and I only really focus on compassion and forgiveness because that’s the only way and I didn’t used to do that at all. I took too long to grow up, and now I’ve got that perspective on what my life should be about I’ve probably never been happier.”

کیوی میڈیا رپورٹس کے مطابق سابق کیوی کپتان مارٹن کرو 53 برس کی عمر میں نیوزی لینڈ کے شہر آکلینڈ میں کینسر کے باعث انتقال کر گئے۔ ڈاکٹرز نے ستمبر 2014 میں مارٹن کرو میں کینسر کی تشخیص کی تھی۔ مارٹن کرو کی آخری رسومات 11 مارچ کو آکلینڈ کے ہولی ٹرینٹی کیتھیڈرل چرچ میں ادا کی جائیں گی۔
نیوزی لینڈ کے موجود کپتان کین ولیمسن نے مارٹن کرو کے انتقال پر افسوس کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ سابق عظیم کھلاڑی ٹیم کے لئے ہمیشہ مثبت سوچ رکھتے تھے۔
واضح رہے کہ مارٹن کرو نے نیوزی لینڈ کی جانب سے 77 ٹیسٹ میچز میں 45.36 کی اوسط سے 5444 رنز جب کہ 143 ایک روزہ میچوں میں 38.55 کی اوسط سے 4704 بنائے۔ پاکستان کے خلاف 1992 کے ورلڈ کپ فائنل میں نیوزی لینڈ کی کپتانی بھی مارٹن کرو نے ہی کی تھی۔
